There always seems to be something wrong with me. If it’s not some injury from playing ball or working out, then it’s me getting sick. It truly never ends and I’m only 31 years old right now. About three months ago, I started coughing really badly. Well, it started off with a stuffy head that I made worse by taking Zicam. Then it became a sinus infection so I needed to take anti-biotics for that. Just when I shook the sinusitis, I got a sore throat, which eventually led to the dreaded cough. I had the same cough when I was in high school and my friend’s family always joked that I had tuberculosis. I went to American doctors and Chinese ones who made me drink that nasty herbal mix. Neither helped and eventually it went away on its own. So I was really familiar with this cough. It was dry with no phlegm (sorry for the visual) and would come and go as it pleased. It didn’t matter how many bottles of cough medicine I’d down, this damn thing just would not go away. Even when I was in Taiwan for my grandpa’s 100th birthday, I was coughing up a storm throughout the trip. That takes us to just past the new year when I got horribly ill from eating at Ceasar’s Mongolian BBQ by my house. Hmm. Reminds me that I have to write a harsher review on my blog about that hellhole than I did on Yelp! So imagine vomiting and diarrhea (sorry again for the visual) while having an intense cough at the same time. No es bueno. I am against going to most doctors because 1) I don’t have health insurance and 2) most of them have no idea what they’re doing. My dad was going to see Dr. Kirk Y. Chang at Cedars Sinai up by the old Peterson/Primedia/Source Interlink office in Beverly Hills and he told me that he made an appointment for me as well. I remember seeing Dr. Chang back in my Super Street/Project Car days when I had a crazy sinus infection and was addicted to nasal spray just so I could breathe. He helped me kick that crackhead-like habit.
Turns out, my sis and mom tagged along too. I think my mom just went in for a check up, but Jean went because she said she was tired all the time. Not sure if that’s breaking news or not since she’s been like that for the past decade or so. It ended up being a family doctor visit day up at Cedars Sinai. I talked to Dr. Chang about my cough and whatnot. Most doctors would just tell me to take some Robitussin and call them in two weeks. Dr. Chang thought about it for a bit and asked me to describe when I would cough then diagnosed it to be a problem with my stomach. He told me to take these pills for a month and a prescription cough syrup at night then update him when I was finished with them. Long behold, the violent cough that would keep my from being a ninja is done dizzle. Seriously, this thing has came and went for about 15 years and none of the doctors I went to see could even come close to getting rid of it except for Dr. Chang. I still have to clear my throat every once in a while, but that might just be a habit that I have to unlearn.
He even had his staff do a blood test on me, which came out pretty average. That’s surprising considering how much beef I eat. I figured at some point, my blood pressure and cholesterol would be through the roof.
I’m not sure how the whole doctor selection system works for your insurance plan, but if you have the option to go to Dr. Kirk Y. Chang, I highly recommend it.
Oh, and sorry Import Car Doctor Aaron. You’re not the only doctor I go to now, but you are the only one who can clear those pesky error codes on my Benzo wagon. LOL

Nice! I cough alot too, but it’s from the years of smoking.
Don’t ask me why but when I was reading this, it reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer has that cough and takes dog cough syrup… Gotta love it! I’m glad you are cured now!
