Paperless Billing Bites Me In The Ass

Yes, it’s very strange that a guy who once owned six cars at one time is so concerned about the environment. The truth is, I really am. For the past couple of years I’ve converted all my bills to be paperless so I don’t kill trees for no reason. Seriously, if you see my cell phone bill, it’s the size of a dictionary. The convenience of going paperless is also there. I don’t have to go through all the different breakdowns in my bill when it’s not necessary. Or so I thought.
For the past couple of weeks my roommate and I have been going back and forth thinking if we wanted to get HD service. And if we did, would it be from DirecTV or someone else. I looked on my Verizon bill, since I have this bundle package deal, and saw that the charges for DirecTV alone were over $100 without any movie channels. I call up DirecTV and of course, they tell me to call Verizon, who in turn tells me to call back to DirecTV. Somewhere in all this mess, I’m informed that I have been charged four payments of $42.25 for NBA League Pass. Huh? I didn’t sign up for that. Not this season at least. So I talk to customer service and the lady tells me that they automatically renew subscription every year unless I tell them not to. Um. Really? How ridiculous is that? What is this, Girls Gone Wild? The worst part is that they said they couldn’t do anything about the charges after they started billing and that I should check my bill more closely. Admittedly, I don’t go through my bill and decipher it every month. But it always looks the same in terms of total amounts and with Verizon’s bill you have to load up other pages to get the itemized breakdown. So unless there was something wrong, I wouldn’t look for it. Then if there was something wrong, which there was this time, it was too late for them to fix it anyway. Such a headache.

Now for the shadiest of the shady. Another charge on my bill was from ILD Teleservices for US Credit Repair. What the hell is that? I asked the Verizon customer service lady and she said she had no idea even though it was on the bill from them. She told me to call the 800 number myself and find out because she couldn’t help me. I do and the super ghetto lady that answered told me that their computers were down and they’d call me back within 24 hours, which they didn’t. In the morning I figure I should do some Google searches on this ILD Teleservices company to see what was up. Literally thousands of complaints listed and filed against these scam artists. Apparently they are known for jacking your phone number from anywhere and then somehow are able to charge you through your phone bill without your permission. WTF, right? They call it phone “cramming” and say you signed up for some voicemail service or credit repair BS. That sounds about as illegal and shady as humanly possible. Also, I read that Verizon lets these scammers do this because they get kick backs from it. Am I living in the Twilight Zone or something? In Connecticut a few years ago, they made these jackasses pay back the people they scammed to the tune of $47,000 and then fined them another $50,000. Yet on top of all that, these F’en scammers are still in business and using the same name.  What is this world coming to? I finally got a hold of someone at ILD and she was a total bitch, of course. I mean they’re stealing my money, why should they be courteous about it? Out of the six months of jacking me, they only credited three. I guess I should be happy they weren’t $45 charges or more like the other horror stories I’ve heard about these bastards.

So to think, all this really came from going with a paperless bill and automatic bill-pay. Because not only do I not get a really detailed bill from Verizon every month and they’d just pull the money out of my bank account so I didn’t stand a chance against these jackasses. So make sure you guys (and girls) check your bills every month no matter how much of a pain in the ass it is. Now I have to decide if killing a couple of trees is going to keep me from going through this nonsense again. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sick of people jacking my money. This modern day grifting must stop and the government needs to get off their asses and shut these mother F’ers down.

I googled them myself and they did have a crap load of complaints n’ stuff. Their website looks like a $15 template from a site vendor. I don’t think that these foo’s are legit. They’re hoola-hooping a loop-hole and we’re paying for it. Shoot I’m glad I don’t have voice mail. Otherwise I’d get all these messages about how the warranty on my ‘90 240SX is almost up…LOL, have you got that call?! I think everyone has! SCAMMERS!
