Hitting The El Segundo Skate Park

Good thing the El Segundo Skate Park only allows people 18 and over to be there between 11am and 2pm on weekdays. Seriously, check out how ridiculous I look with this skateboard helmet on. It’s huge or my head is tiny…maybe both. Not to mention the fact that I’m older and a lot slower now. Can’t get off the ground quite as easily either.

One weekday morning Will “Cheesecake” Roegge and I hit the El Segundo Skate Park just to see how it was. He’s been there a couple of times by himself, but I haven’t been to a skate park since the last time we went to the one in Wilmington. This park is all concrete with stairs, ramps, blocks, and handrails. I can probably utilize two of those things. I felt like an idiot skating around and trying to nose slide the planter blocks and grind down stuff. Seriously, you can go back to your younger days, it’s just way harder.

I ended up being able to grind the planter block, board slide the small rail, and nose slide another block. None of it was pretty, though. People keep telling me not to try, but what the hell for? Just so I can be stoked about being 30? Should I sit home and mope around worrying about falling and breaking my hip? Nah. F That.

Will wasn’t having much fun skating so he grabbed his roller blades and started tearing shit up. At one point he tried to hit the handrail, but missed it and disappeared onto the ground. Sounded painful. The good part is that I probably burned 1,000 calories messing around in that place. The bad part is that I was sore as hell and left with more scratches and bruises than I had planned to. Next stop is the one in Cerritos. Man I hate these helmets. Did I say that already?
