Brand New Clippers, Same Old Result

Tonight was the Los Angeles Clippers season opener at home against the Lakers. Huge game for my team after the massive off season moves and the loss of Elton “Benedict” Brand. I hauled up to Staples Center to make sure I’d get there by tip off and see the action first hand.

It started off with Slash (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) playing the National Anthem on his guitar, then into announcing the entire line up for both teams and followed with an introduction speech by Baron Davis. The first quarter started off slow, but there were some pretty spectacular plays by both teams. The Lakers went away with a three point edge off of a buzzer beater shot from the corner by Trevor Ariza. Then the second quarter started getting very sloppy for my Clippers. Not playing defense and looking god awful on offense. We were into a deep double digit deficit by half time. The third quarter didn’t start any better and we ended up getting blown out of the water at home. Totally pathetic. Yes, our team is practically new and have not had a chance to mesh, but this was simply a disgusting game to watch.

Here are some notes I have on my team:

Marcus Camby- Needs to recover from his heel bruise and ball up. The Lakers have the Andrew Bynum and Pau “Racist” Gasol twin towers, we need ours to match them and other teams. He also has to move past the fact that he was traded by the Denver Nuggets. It sucks I’m sure, but he’s still getting paid a lot of money to play and that’s exactly what he needs to do. We need his shot blocking and rebounding.

Chris Kaman- Wake the hell up. It’s been six years now, why can’t he dribble, pass, or dunk yet? Not to mention put on body mass. Bigger “bigs” are throwing him around in the paint.

Al Thorton- Shoot the shot when you’re open or attack the basket. Stutter stepping five or six times isn’t getting you into rhythm.

Cuttino “CAT” Mobley- Still love this guy. Brings leadership and heart to every game, but we might be asking too much from him to defend offensive weapons like Kobe Bryant and still try to score on the other end.

Tim Thomas- Missing nearly all of his free throws is just sad. The open jumpers too. I also think we are asking too much from him by asking him to dribble, post up, and pass. He needs to stand still and hit threes when he’s open.

Jason Hart- Needs more scoring when plays are broken up. Plays hard.

Baron Davis- Attacking the basket at all times. He can either score on his own or create for the other guys as long as they’re ready to catch the ball.

Steve Novak- Love this guy as a pick up. Knows his role off the bench. Comes in and rains threes like they’re going out of style. Swishhhhhh. Always cheering the team on and off the court.

Brian Skinner- Plays hard on defense and grabbing those boards. When our offense ends up running through him to score we have problems.

Ricky Davis- Dude has always been a Clipper killer, so he’s gotta step up his game big time.

Eric Gordon- Still getting the hang of the NBA, but can’t wait for him to light it up again.

Mike Taylor- Fast and pesky on defense. Good at getting in the paint and scoring. Needs to slow down on the dribble penetration and cut back on the turnovers.

DeAndre Jordan- I wanna see him work on his post moves and continue to dunk on poor souls.

Paul Davis- Great to see him back and hopefully gets more playing time. Especially with how bad Chris Kaman has been playing.

What can I say? Gotta bow down to last year’s Western Conference Champions, for tonight at least. Does anyone realize how tall their starting line up is? Two 7 footers, Vladamir Radmanovic at 6′10″, and Kobe Bryant at 6′6″. Ridiculous.

Awesome way to end an already shitty month.
